Solid Wood Bunk Beds
The use of solid wood in bunk beds has long been a practice that has been passed on. Solid
wood bunk beds can be traced back to communities that lived near forests or lived near the sea. Places like
these usually did not have much metal to use since metal would have been easily corroded by the sea air.
Solid wood bunk beds a re a good medium to use since it offers strength and durability. One of course has to
use a good source in order to make it last. A normal wooden bunk bed might last for 3 years but a solid wood
one will surely last longer. Any type of wood source or type of wood can be used by walnut and other hard
type woods are preferred. Soft trees are not used since they have a certain elasticity that would cause them
to bend under pressure.
Solid wood bunk beds have been known to last even as long as en years and has even sheltered
several generations of children. The only big disadvantage of using solid wood is that the beds cant be
shortened or lengthened when needed. Unlike metal ones that have screws and use tubes as connectors, it is
easy to do so. If one is interested in making these beds portable, metal bunk beds have got the wooden ones
beat.
Its all a matter of preference really. If one likes to have that oak or wooden smell then go
for the wooden bunk beds. If it is durability and portability then the options to use metal ones. The thing
is that many people view metal bunk beds as cold, not really comfortable looking. It is used in mass shelters
so it doesn’t really evoke the feeling of a home. Wooden bunks have the opposite effect. They make you feel
relaxed and at ease.
Metal bunk beds were also used as psychological tools when breaking down men’s psyche in
prison. The scan surroundings made prisoners feel that sleep would not be a comfort for them for metal beds
seemed and felt cold to the touch.
Solid wood bunk beds can be torn up and sold by weight if the family or school no longer needs them. Unlike metal,
wood fetches a higher price. Homes that have solid wood bunk beds should take extra care to spray or have them
treated with anti termite solution or other means to keep them bug free. The wood releases certain chemicals as it decays and these attract all insects
that may destroy the wood. This is why in some homes children and some adult have been infected and hurt from
insect infestation for no measured were taken. One thing that can be done is make sure that the wood used in the
bunk beds have been treated for these insects. It doesn’t cost much and most wood suppliers have a ready set
available for home use. Solid wood bunk beds are a good choice but one
has look at the cons before pushing through with one.
